Hi! I’m Mel.
Although successful in meeting the requirements of my profession in architecture for decades, from acquiring the specialized bachelor's degree, passing difficult licensure exams, to adding a real alphabet-soup of letters after my name from all the credentials and professional memberships I collected, I started to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. It was a constant struggle to keep up with everything - both at work and at home.
The stress of work, long-hours spent in front of the computer or in endless meetings, constant tight deadlines, and worry (especially when many of my friends and colleagues were being laid off from their jobs), not only challenged my mental health but my physical health too. What would happen if I failed to keep up with the increased workload? What if I was let go too and my family lost a source of income?
From that fear and worry came shaking hands, frequent headaches, wrist pain, back pain … and it wasn’t getting any better. The most doctors could do was diagnose me with chronic pain and suggest I join a support group.
So, I started to dig deep into what was causing my pain … I worked with a psychologist, physical therapists, and a yoga therapist. I changed my diet, took classes on mindfulness, signed up with a mind-body coach … and then I worked with a hypnotherapist.
To this day, I remember how it felt to be pain free for the first time after that first hypnosis session. As I transformed my mindset and approach to life, I felt better in my body and freer in my outlook.
I slowly incorporated things that brought me joy and peace like meditation, walks on the beach, playing in the waves and spending time with friends. I embraced mindfulness and authenticity as values to live by along with curiosity and a willingness to embrace the unconventional.
Then I took the first step in fulfilling my desire to help other people transform their own mindsets by becoming a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach and, eventually, leaving architecture to become a Certified Medical Support Clinical Hypnotherapist trained by the Hypnotherapy Academy of America. Throughout my journey, I discovered a knack for listening, mentoring, and teaching thanks to the many people who came to me for a different, and calming, perspective on their challenges.
I am committed to helping my clients overcome their own challenges.
By combining my coaching, mentoring and hypnotherapy skills, I help clients design a life they love that is aligned with their values, not someone else's. I love to work with busy professionals working in high-pressure jobs in careers like accounting, architecture, engineering, law, financial, and medical who are struggling to find (or maintain) a life that rewards them both professionally and personally.
So many of the folks in these busy careers struggle to meet their own professional goals such as getting licensed, even though they know it would mean a promotion, a raise, and recognition for all the hard work.
I know what it takes to get licensed while working and living full-time ... at some point we end up feeling like something has to give ... and it is often the exams that get postponed or the studying that never happens ... and we feel disappointed and letdown. What if you could learn to balance all-the-things to increase your motivation to move forward towards your license?
I bring my years of working in a demanding profession and blend it with my hypnotherapy tools to help my clients find a balanced life while walking the path to licensure and beyond. This is a more holistic response to getting licensed - based on my own experience, there is more to passing exams than opening a book, practicing software and endless flashcards. In my opinion, there is a lifestyle approach to success that can be the backbone to achieving licensure in your chosen career.
This might show up first as exam prep and accelerated learning to help you pass your licensure exams with ease, and then as stress reduction, learning to manage time and establish (and use) boundaries at work and home, building self-confidence, feeling motivated, addressing public speaking nervousness, developing a money and prosperity mindset to ask for a raise, manage debt or save for the future, developing and sticking with healthy habits or ending unhealthy ones, and then after the license is in your hands - asking for that promotion, starting your own business, leveling up your career in a way that is meaningful and purposeful on your own terms. This is how I can help my client's live the Licensed Life.
I became a hypnotherapist because hypnosis worked (and continues to work) for me, and I am called to help people overcome their fears, stresses, and obstacles in life so they can live a life they love.
This manifests in my key motto: Relaxation is Rebellion.
Because the more we deeply relax through self-hypnosis, the more we learn to tap into our inner wisdom that is compassionate and inspirational.
